Vancouver Evergreen Line

Nice video of the Coquitlam section - from near the pic shown in the last post, above.

As of yesterday, this video from BCNEWSVIDEO shows that there are 7 sections left to go on Pinetree Way.

From SSP:

Have a chance today to walk and check out the progress of the construction. I always feel the most interesting segment is between the tunnel portal to Coquitlam Central station, as they are far away from major roads and fewest photos are available...

Coquitlam Central Station

This shows how far the track is going to go, where the guideway on far-right will be long enough to park a train and serve as a spur (pocket) track. The gap between track 2 and 3 seems pretty small to put another platform in there..

This is suppose to be the entrance to VSF or future site of Falcon Station? The track is in the trench on the right side of image so can't really see anything here

Coquitlam City Hall SkyTrain Construction - another view.

The gantry will be disassembled this week.
The elevated guideway will be complete when that last gap is filled.

The last segment was raised yesterday:

There's a short video recently posted on EGRT Facebook page.

"The last segment of the Evergreen Line elevated guideway has been installed! Construction crews celebrate as the final segment of the elevated guideway is lifted in Coquitlam."

Here's the video:

I wonder if everyone who cares about transit in Toronto feels a bit depressed with every Vancouver post.

Who would have thought that if you plan the right type of transit, then it can be built fast and affordable and with no public opposition?

There was some opposition late in the game (after construction started) by residents of the condo towers shown here - to the elevated section where the guideway crosses the CP rail tracks.
They came to an agreement that more trees would be planted to screen the line from the residents.

The current hold-up is the TBM - they encountered some soft soils and are behind schedule. The soils caused a few small sinkholes when the TBM stopped for maintenance, which had residents above the TBM worried and in a panic.

But yes, this particular project has gone smoothly - mainly because it was initially promised back in 1998 or so, and the Canada Line jumped the queue.

I don't feel depressed at all. We're building a lot of high-quality transit. But that's a good point. A Skytrain-style system in the suburbs would have had less opposition than LRT. People trust grade separation--both drivers and transit users.

I don't suppose that the cost of planting trees is $150M/km - the rough difference between tunnelled and elevated.

Pic facing Lincoln Station site from Evergreen Line facebook - a bit dated since the webcam shows the superstructure already erected:

Great shots, thanks!

and the spacing of those 3 columns explains the wide separation of the guideways, as someone mentioned before.
