A month since we last checked in at Second + Main, and progress below grade has moved along significantly. The excavation site has transformed into a full scale build site complete with multi-tiered pilings and foundations, and at least one giant cement pour that have collectively brought the scale of the project to light.

Located, fittingly, at Second and Main, the aptly-named development by Create Properties and Francl Architecture will eventually rise 12 storeys, and will host to 256 residential units. Set to be split between 226 market rate, and 30 non-market units, the East End development will offer a mix of options for the city's diverse population.

With the arrival of every subsequent cement pour, Second + Main has been coming closer and closer to fruition, its signature "C" shape configuration to require the employment of several different levels and bases for each part of the structure. This distinctive arrangement will allow for the creation of an inner courtyard and covered entryway, which will be surrounded on three sides by the rest of the building.

Moreover, the tiered nature of the structure will also allow for the inclusion of a series of continuous, stepped, rooftop terraces - each of which will be covered in ample vegetation and green space. All of this greenery, combined with a careful selection of high-efficiency materials, will more than likely result in a LEED Gold certification upon completion.

Furthermore, down at ground level, Second + Main will front onto Main Street with 12,000 sq. ft. of retail space. Altogether, Second + Main is shaping up to be a welcome addition to the neighbourhood, the spirit of the development very much in keeping with that of the city to which it belongs.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
