A month since our last update, and construction has begun at Second + Main as excavation work continues on-site. The recent arrival of the crane base and crane has brought the site to life, as the first instances of cement and rebar have begun to sprout deep within the excavation pit.

The 12-storey, 256-unit, Second + Main by Create Properties and Francl Architecture is located at 1837-47 Main Street near 2nd Ave, thereby placing the mixed-use residential development close to two major thoroughfares. Well-situated, close to numerous shops, restaurants, and transit lines, Second + Main will consist of 226 market units, and 30 non-market units, thereby allowing for a modicum of affordability and a mix of clientele.

The finished design of the structure will be a "C" configuration, with an inner courtyard and entryway surrounded on three sides by the rest of the building. The tiered layers of the structure will create several large outdoor terraces, each of which will be covered in a significant amount of vegetation and useable public space.

Down below, the ground floor will be home to 12,000 square feet of retail space, which will serve the area well. Overall, given the sustainability (LEED Gold) of the project, in concert with the inclusion of a handful of affordable units, Second + Main will be an excellent fit for downtown Vancouver.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
