Four months since our last update, and excavation work at the future site of Second + Main has begun to make some real progress. Excavation crews have dug deep in preparation for the construction of the 12-storey, 256-unit, mixed-use, residential development.

Located at Main and E 2nd Ave, the aptly-named Second + Main will consist of 226 market units and 30 non-market units, with a healthy mix of sizes and configurations. Though centrally located and close to transit, there will be space underground for 297 cars, in addition to ample bike parking.

Designed by Francl Architecture, dys Architecture, and False Creek Design Group (interior) for Urban One, Second + Main is truly a team effort. To these ends, the design scheme calls for an array of massing and composition elements, the tower to be arranged in a rough "C" formation, complete with a series of floor-by-floor setbacks and terraces.

The terraces will allow for ample green space and vegetation, the inclusion of which, in addition to the benefits associated with green roofs, will help ensure that Second + Main receives LEED Gold certification. Down at street level, the ground floor will be home to almost 12,000 sq. ft. of retail space, which should serve the area well.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
