Six months since our last update, and progress at the site of Prime on the Plaza in Surrey has been swift, the 37-storey tower now nearly complete. Designed by Bingham Hill Architects for Macdonald Development Corporation and Reliance Properties, the 398-unit residential tower will soon welcome home up to 600 new residents.

Located along the bustling University Drive corridor, Prime on the Plaza will place residents within easy walking distance of several key landmarks, including the Surrey SFU Campus, Surrey Central Library, and Surrey Central Station. Close to transit, shops, restaurants, and services, the new high-rise will be a popular address for those looking to be in the heart of the action.

Whether or not Prime on the Plaza will be a home for families, however, is yet to be seen, with micro-units beginning at just 295 square feet. Even the largest, 796 square-foot two-bedroom units will be a squeeze for most, suggesting that this development is aimed primarily at SFU students and young professionals looking to commute into the big city on a budget.

There will be no lack of amenities, however, the 16,000 square-foot common space to include a gym, wellness area, steam room, private music practice room, study rooms, theatre room, and a fully-equipped rooftop lounge. Upon completion, Prime on the Plaza will make the perfect starter condo for those looking for a mix of urban and suburban living in Surrey Central.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
