Ten months since we last checked in on 1090 West Pender Street, and demolition crews have set their sights upon a longstanding office tower that once occupied the site. With the adjacent parking garage now reduced to rubble, it will not be long now before the mid-century office block meets a similar fate.
In its place, a modern, glass-wrapped, 33-storey office complex will soon grace the local skyline, the Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership-designed project by Bentall Kennedy to be a welcome breathe of fresh air. Approved back in 2017, the development has been a long time coming.
The new 1090 West Pender Street will be comprised of 562,135 sq. ft. of prime downtown office space, perched atop 6,378 sq. ft. of street-level retail. Below grade, a 7-storey parking garage will hold enough space for 432 cars and 119 bikes.
1090 West Pender Street will be an innovative structure, its triple-glazed glass curtain wall, paired with a continuous series of tall vertical fins, to help bring down sun exposure, and to thus increase its overall efficiency. Well-situated, well-appointed with amenities, and graced with a sleek, modern design, 1090 West Pender Street will be a popular address for commercial and retail tenants of all stripes.
SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
