Two months since our last update, and construction has now all but wrapped up at Oxford Properties' 401 West Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver. Hoarding has now been removed, with crews now busy at the task of applying the finishing touches to the base of the structure.
Designed by B+H Architects, the 9-storey, mid-rise office block has been arranged as a series of stacked, off-kilter, cubic volumes. The three volumes are composed of blocks containing 2, 3, and 4 storeys from bottom to top.
Built upon the grounds of the former BMO Auxillary Building, and sat upon a small downtown lot directly adjacent to the historic, Holy Rosary Cathedral, the new structure represents an excellent, modern solution for a challenging urban space. Indeed, the two structures work well together, the mix of modern and traditional well-suited for a tightly-knit urban streetscape such as this.
Once complete, 401 West Georgia Street will be filled out with 6,600 sq. ft. of amenity space, which in addition to the TBA retail space at grade, will serve to round out the structure well.
