Six weeks since our last update, and progress at Boffo Developments' The Smithe has moved ahead significantly. The base and first several floors of the 27-storey tower now soar above street level, the project already having made quite the impact upon the local streetscape.

The mixed-use tower features 22 floors of residential space, comprising 97 units, perched atop a 5-storey podium base which will house a mixture of commercial space and retail at grade. Altogether forming what will be a relatively tall and skinny high-rise, the two-volume approach appears to be an effective way to break up the project from a visual perspective.

Designed by GBL Architects, The Smithe will also feature a large outdoor terrace upon the "roof" of the podium. The space will form a pleasant outdoor area for tenants and residents alike, it to be populated with a crop of planted trees.

Soon to be home to upwards of 125 residents, The Smithe will be a vibrant addition to the corner of Smithe and Cambie within the downtown core.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
