Just one month since our last update, and progress at The Smithe has moved ahead by leaps and bounds. Of note, the scaffolding has now come down from the podium and first few levels of the tower, thus giving passersby a better glimpse of the structure.

Set to stand tall at 27 storeys (22 tower; 5 podium base), The Smithe will feature a mix of uses, including residential, commercial, and retail. Helping to accommodate the tower into the local streetscape, the tower has been setback considerably from the podium base, creating a visual break between the two volumes.

This arrangement will allow for the podium to function almost as a standalone structure, its "top" to host a large outdoor terrace complete with trees and ample seating. Above the base, the tower will be host to 97 residential units, the project as a whole to be home to upwards of 125 people.

Located at the corner of Smithe and Cambie, the project will bring a great deal of urban vibrancy to the core, the skinny tower to suit the area well. The daily home to dozens of office workers, and a permanent residence to a over a hundred more, The Smithe will be a lively, engaging, local establishment.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
