A month since our last update, and The Smithe's 27-storey tower has now risen well above its 5-storey podium base. Designed by GBL Architects for Boffo Developments, The Smithe will soon be home to a mix of uses, including residential, commercial, and retail.

Located, fittingly, at the corner of Smithe and Cambie Streets, between Yaletown, Downtown, and False Creek, The Smithe will place its residents, office workers, and retail tenants within a prime corner of the city centre. Close to transit, retail, dining, and and several walkable neighbourhoods, The Smithe will be a popular address for all of its intended users.

Set upon a narrow downtown parcel, The Smithe will be a relatively skinny tower, the majority of which will rest upon the slightly broader multi-storey podium. Set back from the street, the skinny residential tower component will open to the roof of the podium, itself to be graced with a large outdoor terrace complete with a handful of potted trees.

With room for 97 units, in addition to three floors of office space, and a single floor of ground-level retail, The Smithe will serve the area well. Once complete, The Smithe will make for a fine addition to the core.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
