Six months since we last checked in at The Stack office tower in downtown Vancouver, and excavation work has now gotten significantly underway. Having dug deep below grade, crews have begun to prep for the foundations, which will more than likely be poured within the next few months.

Centrally-located at the corner of Melville and Thurlow, close to the W Georgia and Robson commercial corridors, transit, and the Coal Harbour waterfront, The Stack will be a prime address for hundreds of office workers. Set to deliver 540,000 sq. ft. of modern office space to the core, with anchor tenants EY and Blakes and DLA Piper taking up 207,000 sq. ft. collectively, The Stack will be home to some heavy hitters, in addition to a list of smaller tenants.

Named for its defining architectural feature - its series of "stacked" cubic volumes - The Stack by James KM Cheng Architects and Oxford Properties Group Inc. will live up to its namesake, the tower (below) to be composed of four large glass boxes.

Once complete, The Stack will seek to achieve LEED Platinum certification - the development to be just one of two in Canada engaged in the Net Zero Carbon pilot project. Furthering its green image, the multiple volumes will allow for the inclusion of several green roofs with live vegetation, and the parking garage will include room for 250 bicycles.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
