Construction has started to heat up for the residential project known as Pier West. Located in the Vancouver suburb of New Westminster, the project is set to include two buildings with heights of 53 and 43 storeys respectively. Developed by Bosa Development, the project will house 665 units in a mix of one-, two-, and three- bedroom apartments as well as townhomes.

When we last checked on this project in 2018, designs had been unveiled and the project was starting to gain traction. Fast-forward a year, and the site is a maze of construction.

Fences have gone up and several tractors and rigs can be seen in the background, meaning excavation and shoring is soon to happen. Shoring is extremely crucial to a project of this size that is located so close to the water, as can be seen in the photo below.

The Hossein Amanat designed towers feature a mostly glass facade with the addition of balconies designed to mimic the water it oversees. The lobby features a V design that ends at the curtain wall of the glass facade. A three-storey building next door will house a children's day care, a restaurant, and retail space.

In addition, the site plan calls for a new boardwalk as well as an expansion of Westminster Pier Park. Pier West should finish up sometime to 2022.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
