The intersection of Commercial and Broadway is undergoing significant transformation. The Skytrain station has just completed its reconfiguration, and plans to redevelop the Safeway at the south-east corner are currently in the works. Capping it off, the site for a mixed-use 10-storey development at 1619-1651 East Broadway has just been cleared. The building is designed by the IBI Group for Jameson Development Corp.

The development application for the building is currently under review by the Director of Planning and includes some changes compared to the rezoning application approved in May 2018. The number of units has been reduced from 93 (47 secured market rental units and 46 market strata units) to 85 (45 rental units and 40 strata units).

Building height has been increased from 106 feet to 109 feet. Parking has also changed from 75 car and 117 bicycle parking spaces, to 64 car and 116 bicycle parking spaces. Other changes include a substantial increase in the area dedicated to an intensive green roof, addition of permanent planters, larger children's play area, and an increase in the number of urban agriculture plots.
