Two months since our last update, and progress at the site of Concord Pacific's GBL Architects-designed W1 development in South Vancouver has been moving along well, the project's exterior now close to completion. Consisting of three 27-, 21-, and 7-storey blocks totalling 460 units, the project represents a transformative development for the rapidly intensifying SW Marine Drive corridor.

Clad in bright blue spandrel, the two tallest towers stand out against the grey Vancouver sky. While the high-rises will be dedicated as rentals, the smaller mid-rise block will combine 70 units with a 37-space daycare. Having replaced a 1970s-era affordable housing complex, W1 will offer former tenants a host of financial incentives for units within the new towers in order to ease the transition.

Viewed above and below, ample balconies will allow residents to enjoy a bit of outdoor space, along with views of the Vancouver skyline. Walking distance to the Marine Drive SkyTrain station, the development will provide residents with an easy commute in and out of the core.

For those looking to stay closer to home, the neighbourhood offers a full range of big box shopping and restaurants, W1 and the SW Marine Drive corridor providing a well-balanced mix of urban and suburban living.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
