Following the swift removal of the former auxiliary pavilion at the BMO Complex at the corner of Dunsmuir and Homer Streets, progress has been moving along nicely at the site of 401 West Georgia Street. Now rising above grade, the first glimpse of the B+H Architects-designed future home of Amazon's second downtown office has caught the attention of our Forum, recent images highlighting the progress made to date.

Set to rise nine storeys, the commercial office block will be composed of three distinct volumes, with one floor of ground level retail surmounted by successive layers of office and amenity space. The development will involve 6,600 square feet of amenity space, including a conference room and fitness centre.

Design-wise, the exterior mullions have been included to evoke an industrial-chic warehouse aesthetic. Inside, the use of polished concrete floors, LED light fixtures, and open concept offices, will add to the office block's modernist vibe.

Sitting in contrast with the modern new addition, the century-old Holy Rosary Cathedral will help balance the steel and glass facade of the office block against its own more traditional, stone, slate, and stained glass materiality. Once complete, more than 1,000 Amazon employees will call this project home, the rejuvenation of the corner to be a welcome change amidst Vancouver's never-ending redevelopment.
