Following the project's approval earlier this year, demolition crews have been hard at work, clearing the site of the old Edward Chapman store for the construction of the 833 West Pender Street. Set to rise 13 storeys, the 106-room hotel will be the first of its kind in the core since 2010, the tower to be filled out with two levels of underground parking, a ground-floor restaurant, and a rooftop garden terrace.

Before shovels can go to ground, however, the former Edward Chapman store, a fixture for more than half a century, has to be demolished, its vintage edifice now hollowed out a pile of rubble.

Designed by Studio One Architecture for Executive Group of Companies, the facade will be clad in white stone, arranged in a geometric grid pattern in keeping with the mid-century aesthetic of the surrounding streetscape.

Capped with a rooftop garden, the 42-metre tower will be a fine addition to the downtown core, the new hotel to place guests within easy walking distance of the waterfront, Gastown and the CF Pacific Centre.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
