Having progressed nicely since our last update, the distinctly colourful curtain wall exterior of 288 East Hastings by BC Housing and Wall Financial Corporation has all but wrapped up, the Endall Elliot Associates-designed, 12-storey residential tower rapidly approaching completion.

Comprised of two distinct, yet interconnected structures, the mixed-use development will consist of 104 non-market units, 68 market units, and 6,000 square feet of commercial space.

While vertical columns of brick cladding have been carried across both masses, similar to the alternating window pane treatment, each structure has been created with its own distinct character and material aesthetic. The more overtly post-modern structure (left) sits nicely juxtaposed to the faintly heritage-esque sensibility of the taller structure (right).

Already a neighbourhood fixture, 288 East Hastings will be a welcome addition to the neighbourhood, especially in light of Vancouver's ever-rising rental prices.
