A fence has been erected around the site of the eight-storey Elenore on Fifth project by Chard Development in Mount Pleasant, signalling the extant structures' impending demolition. The Proscenium Architecture-designed mid-rise negotiates a tricky property with a steep slope that ultimately informs the building's massing and orientation, leading to some eye-catching views of the North Shore mountains and the downtown core.

The off-kilter position of the tower in relation to its retail-infused podium was also a byproduct of efforts to protect a view corridor. The gaping space that this unique relationship produces becomes a green roof, with amenity decks giving way to children's play areas and garden plots for the adults. Exterior finishes include brick, stone, wood and glass in reference to "contemporary West Coast living," the project's website reads.

Elenore on Fifth will contain one- to three-bedroom floor plans ranging in size from 476 to 1,635 square feet. Each residence includes gourmet kitchens, stainless steel appliances, and oak laminate flooring. Residents get their pick between two colour schemes, a light palette and a dark palette.
