A roll of the dice officially marked the opening of the $640 million Parq Vancouver Friday night, capping off two years of construction on the integrated resort and casino complex beside BC Place. Parq Holdings Limited Partnership executed what is being called the largest private development in British Columbia, introducing two high-end hotels to a property that also houses a relocated Edgewater Casino.
The 775,000-square-foot development features the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, which encompasses floors six through 25 with 281 rooms, 44 suites, three luxury suites, and a two-storey villa. Another hotel named The Douglas boasts 178 rooms and ten suites from the seventh to the 17th floors. A 30,000-square-foot outdoor space, called the Parq, straddles the hotels. This "crown jewel" is home to 200 native pines and a striking water feature.
Edgewater's new 72,000-square-foot casino space is also the only in the province flooded with natural flight. Both gaming levels on the second and third floors are lined in floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and accommodate 600 slot machines, 75 gaming tables, a poker room, and 11 gaming salons. Companies looking to rent out multi-purpose space have 60,000 square feet of ballrooms, boardrooms and meeting areas to choose from — the 15,603-square-foot Parq grand ballroom is the largest in the city.
Las Vegas-based Blau + Associates restaurant group have curated eight restaurants and lounges, including an upscale Chinese eatery called 1886, and The Victor, a premier steak and seafood restaurant situated on the rooftop garden. Fronting the bronze-coloured building is a three-metre-tall stainless steel sculpture of pandas titled 'Slow' by Chinese artist Zhang Huan.
