Back in April, excavation for Concord Pacific's The Arc was in full swing. Crews had dug a couple levels at the site wedged between the Cambie Street Bridge and Nelson Street, and in the months since, have laid the foundation and installed a tower crane that is now facilitating vertical construction on the uniquely shaped development.
A video walkthrough the development's unconventional design alludes to the profile of the iconic Arc de Triomphe in Paris. A modern response to the French landmark, the 29-storey, Francl Architecture-designed project is fastened to the ground by two legs that are joined by a multi-level skybridge.
The silhouette of the building, combined with its curving wind- and water-like elevations, allows views and light to permeate through the facade. The dynamic shape of the building also draws inspiration from the fluttering of a waving flag.
The 560 units will be finished with integrated stainless steel Miele appliances and engineered quartz stone countertops in the kitchens and al fresco deck doors to bridge indoor and outdoor living spaces. Part of the development's mid-air span will house the expansive Sky Club, which offers residents exclusive use of an outdoor patio deck, grand lounge, catering kitchen, fitness facility, and an indoor swimming pool with a vertigo-inducing glass bottom. A series of illuminated multicoloured ceiling installations will accent these amenity spaces and add another level of definition to LIV Design's interior characterization.
