Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver | 188m | 63s | TA Global Bhd. | MCM Partnership

It's not too late for stinson LOL...

we are what??? on his 5th version of saphire?

anyways that is a really nice building... Toronto definately needs something cool like that!

This building has been under construction for over a year now and is at about 6 or 7 levels above grade -
It is now the "Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver":

63 floors - a floor shorter than Shangri-La across Georgia Street.
The main question is about the quality of the glass and spandrel, and how green the colour will be.

i got an email from the folks at Trump that had a new rendering in it. the hot tub on the roof is pretty sweet. i hope the lighting running the length of the building is for real.

First pane of glass is up - from SSP Dec 14th, 2013:
First piece of glass being moved into place (directly above "The New Twist on Luxury" sign on the hoarding)... and it's not great.

Granted this is a pretty poor photo so you may find it looks better in person, but it looks pretty green and not overly reflective. The spandrel, though, doesn't seem to be seafoam; it's closer in colour to the main glass, so there's that.

My photos - taken today.

Also from SSP Dec 15th, 2013 - they dismantled and re-erected the crane for some reason:

Posted at SSP.
We think the wide mullion strip may light up.

They've started adding glass across the first balcony. Looks like there's a prominent (aluminum?) mullion running up the side of the glass at the edge of the balconies. That should highlight the twist a bit.

I don't really see what's so special about this. It already looks dated to me. Reminiscent of a casino in Las Vegas. I suppose that makes sense considering it was drawn up in 2004/05. Certainly doesn't bode well for how it will age a decade from now.

The twisting motif was Arthur Erickson's last design style (there are a few of his buildings around with the style) - and this building is preserving the design as part of his legacy.

For a Vancouver tower, it's relatively symmetrical, and remarkably devoid of kitschy elements, setbacks, protrusions or spires.

Jan 5th pics from SSP showing a fin with a slot that will hopefully have an LED stripe up the tower:

Down the alley and across the street, couldn't be closer.

OD was wondering if the glass went all the way around .... yes it does:
