In the four months since our last update, progress at the site of Edgar Development's the Duke has been moving along nicely. The recently topped-off 14-storey rental apartment block has now received the bulk of its glazing ahead of the impending cladding work that will complete the exterior.
Featuring several columns of vertically off-set windows, the Duke's signature look will be augmented by the massive top-to-bottom public art installation that will take up permanent residence in the recessed space seen in the images above and below.
The building will soon be clad in a beige brickwork-inspired veneer. The planned hot pink art installation will provide a bold injection of colour over the main entrance that will help make the Duke a standout structure.
Adding 200 rental units into the area, the Duke will bring roughly 300 new residents to the confluence of Main, Broadway, and Kingsway. The outlying downtown-adjacent neighbourhood is within view of the Metro Vancouver skyline, and the city centre is easily accessible by public transit and by car.
Once complete, the distinctively angular Duke, built to mimic the idiosyncrasies of the local street grid, will be a welcome addition to the neighbourhood, which is quickly becoming a hotbed of development as Vancouver's red-hot real estate market continues to push would-be urban dwellers further and further afield.
SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
