Located between St Georges Avenue and Lonsdale Avenue on 12th Street East in North Vancouver, a new rental project by Domus Homes is close to hitting grade. Victoria will pack 64 rental units within its six-storey frame, contributing to the increasing rental housing stock in Central Lonsdale.
Victoria will incorporate a number of unique elements into the design by Birmingham & Wood Architects. Key amenity areas in the form of rooftop terraces and communal garden plots introduce a touch of nature to the urban setting. The main amenity area takes the shape of a central courtyard and an adjunct children's play area. A ground-level amenity room will also provide residents with flexible space to host gatherings or simply relax.
Offering studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom floor plans, the development sets aside 10 percent of its stock at below-market rates. Some ground-oriented suites through the courtyard will contain patios facing the alley, creating "eyes on the street" and aiding in community safety.
The new development supplants a 25-unit, three-storey rental building that previously occupied the site. Construction crews working on the project have made steady progress, as concrete walls begin to reach grade level. Occupancy is expected to begin in 2021.
