Vancouver residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback at an upcoming open house for an 11-storey mixed-use development at 8655 Granville Street in Marpole. Buffalo Investment submitted a rezoning application for the fenced-off property in the fall, two years after acquiring the site for $20 million.

The mid-rise building, designed by GBL Architects, would contain mostly residential space. Ground-level retail space and office space on the second floor would also be provided. A residential mix comprised of 19 one-bedroom units, 27 two-bedroom units, and nine three-bedroom units would introduce a total of 55 residences to the site. Residents' amenity spaces will be included on the third floor, and early plans indicate the provision of a south-facing outdoor patio of over 1,000 square feet.

The design rationale submitted with the rezoning application suggests Vancouver's coastal geography played a major role in the architectural vocabulary of the building. Inspired by layered rocks carved by ocean waves over millennia, the building employs long and cantilevered balconies, or "running ribbons" as described by the design team.

Four underground parking levels are proposed to house 73 vehicle stalls and 110 bicycle spaces.

The community open house will be held on Monday February 3 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at 8585 Hudson Street, the Marpole Neighbourhood House. City staff will join the applicant team to answer questions about the proposal.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
