Meghan Markle and Prince Harry aren't the only royals coming to British Columbia—a purpose-built rental development with a regal name is close to topping off in North Vancouver, new images uploaded to our Forum show. The Royals by Chard Development is adding a 23-storey residential tower to 1441 Saint Georges Avenue adjacent to an existing 16-storey building which is undergoing a substantial refurbishment.
Located in the heart of Central Lonsdale, the project encapsulates a total of 256 secured rental studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units, including 14 reserved for the YWCA. Over 20,000 square feet of commercial space is also being introduced to the site, with a mid-block pedestrian connection and plaza, public art, and rooftop residential amenities also included in the two-tower development.
The new 23-storey tower, designed by Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership, is rising next to the existing Royal George complex, which was built in 1968. That building is now going through an extensive refurbishment in concert with the construction of the new build.
Photos uploaded to the SkyriseVancouver Forum show how the project is shaping up. Cladding from the existing apartment tower has been removed and new milky white panels have been installed on much of the volume. Window wall installation has also begun on the new tower as the structure surpasses its older neighbour.
SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
