Six weeks since we last checked in at 400 West Georgia Street, and the concrete core of the 24-storey structure has risen considerably. Standing roughly a dozen storeys above grade, the project has now reached its mid-point, the rest of the development to be filled out over the next several months.

Situated within the core at the corner of West Georgia and Homer Street, the Merrick Architecture-designed, Westbank-developed, 400 West Georgia Street will one day be home to hundreds of office workers. Spread across 375,000 sq. ft. of prime downtown office space, the daily inhabitants of the development will help bring new life and urban vibrancy to the area.

Viewed below, renderings for the project highlight the fact that the bulk of the tower will be made up of a series of stacked, off-kilter, glass boxes. Set to give the tower a bold, sculptural quality, the boxes will double as well as a perch for an array of trees, vines, and other vegetation - the living walls and roofs on display signalling that this will more than likely be a very green building.

Once complete, 400 West Georgia will be a highly recognizable part of the downtown skyline, its stacked cubes to be a standout feature for years to come.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
