Nearly two months since we last checked in at Cardero, and progress upon its distinct, decorative balcony feature has moved ahead significantly. Gracing the exterior of one of the two-volume high-rise development, the feature appears to be on track to become Cardero's defining architectural element.

Looking up from street level, it is evident that the unique, geometrically arranged balcony additions have provided one half of the tower with an almost three-dimensional, sculptural quality. Designed by Henriquez Partners Architects for Bosa Properties, the conjoined, "twin" tower project stands tall at 26 and 21 storeys, the development as a whole to one day be home to upwards of 200 people spread across 119 units.

Located at the confluence of Cardero, W Georgia, and W Pender, the "broken," two-volume approach has allowed the structure to hug the natural curve of the local streetscape. Furthermore, from a design perspective, this unique approach has also provided an opportunity to build two towers in one, each with their own distinct personality.

Moving down to ground level, the towers will be anchored by a common, multi-storey, retail podium which will serve both structures. Once complete, Cardero will be a popular downtown address, its height and density perfect for the area.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
