Vancouver's own Lululemon has been on the forefront of design and innovation for over 20 years. So it is no surprise that the new Lululemon Store Support Centre, presented at the rezoning open house on September 12th, is another example of stunning design. The rezoning application is being considered under the False Creek Flats Plan. City staff and the applicant's team were present to answer questions and collect feedback.
The 13-storey building is designed by Morphosis Architects and Francl Architecture, along with interior design by Clive Wilkinson Architects and Brook Pooni Associates providing planning and land development expertise. The project will be located at 1980 Foley Street on what is now a vacant lot, and will join several other exciting projects nearby including Emily Carr University of Art and Design, 2102 Keith Drive, and 399 East 1st Ave.
The sculpted building will contain more than 6,000 sf of retail space at ground level and over 50,000 sf of office space on floors 2 through 13. The central atrium is designed to maximize the amount of natural light throughout the building. Particular attention is paid to the building's sustainability, including the brise-soleil facade to control solar heat gain. The project is set to achieve several sustainability designations such as LEED BD+C v4 Platinum certification, LBC v4.0 Petal certification, WELL v2 Platinum certification, and Zero Carbon Certification.
The proposal also aims to improve the public realm and streetscape. There will be a new public plaza along Great Northern Way and lush landscaping along the eastern edge to commemorate China Creek. Future daylighting of the creek with the support of the City of Vancouver is also being considered.
Transportation options for the development's future occupants will include public transit with the VCC-Clark station, and the future Great Northern Way station nearby, along with several bus routes, and a separated bike lane. Parking will be located over 5 levels of underground parking and will contain 840 car and 338 bike parking spaces.
