Seven months since our last update, and progress at The Shipyards Lot 5 in North Vancouver has been making major gains. The cladding is now all but complete, as are the glass-lined balconies and causeways which connect the two structures.

Composed of the fully rebuilt Wallace Shipyard Burrard Drydock at the Foot of Lonsdale, the new structure mimics the historic facilities that used to be common throughout the city and environs. Together, the two structures - the open-air multi-purpose space and the adjacent mixed-use hotel/commercial/retail space - now occupy a prime piece of waterfront land.

The interior of the rebuilt 1925 machine shop can be clearly made out in the above image, its lofty presence to form a canopy for what will be a multi-purpose space for markets and festivals, and will host both a basketball and volleyball court. This space will be connected via causeways to the commercial structure next door.

Set to be known as "Nook," the commercial space (above) will be fully enclosed, and will offer year-round retail and dining options - in addition to 70 hotel rooms. Once complete, the project will form a central pillar of North Vancouver's ongoing waterfront redevelopment plan, the capstone of which will be a large outdoor skating rink.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
