A little over a month since our last update, and progress at The Smithe has moved along nicely. In particular, the steady rise of the 27-storey, mixed-use, residential high-rise's multi-storey podium has resulted in it taking shape over the last few weeks, as the base of the project now has an undeniable street presence.

Set to rise 5 storeys, the podium will eventually be home to one floor of ground-level retail, overtop of which three floors of office space will be placed. As for the fifth and final floor, the top of the podium will be reserved for the tower's 4,000 sq.-ft. amenity deck, which will be joined by an outdoor terrace.

The residential portion of the tall, but relatively skinny tower will contain only 97 units, leaving space for some 125 residents. Located, as the name implies, at the corner of Smithe and Cambie, the development will place residents within easy walking distance to several of downtown Vancouver's prime neighbourhoods, including the adjacent Yaletown.

The completed tower will also feature a great deal of lush greenery, thanks in part to the creation of the aforementioned outdoor terrace, which will go a long way towards enhancing the project's urban character. Set for completion by 2020, The Smithe is on target to become a hot address for urban professionals of every stripe.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
