Seven months since our last update, and progress at the site of Westbank's Merrick Architecture-designed 400 West Georgia Street has been moving steadily along. The 24-storey office tower, to eventually be comprised of a series of stacked cubes, has now risen just above grade as the site remains a hive of activity.

After digging deep late last year, crews have been busy at the task of raising the body of the tower up to street level, the more dramatic, sculptural elements to remain hidden for at least another few more months as the base continues to fill out. Located adjacent to the Vancouver Library, and thus within easy walking distance of Granville Street and the SkyTrain station of the same name, 400 West Georgia Street will be a prime address for all and any commercial clients looking to lease space in the core.

Close as well to Yaletown, Gastown, and Coal Harbour, 400 West Georgia Street will be popular among future employees and building support staff once the project is complete. A relative rarity within the dense, condo-dominated core, the addition of 24 storeys and 375,000 sq. ft. of prime office space will be a major boon to downtown.

Viewed above, the uniquely-designed project will feature a massive living wall, the exterior to be significantly covered over by vines, trees, and other vegetation. Down at street level, the large, inset podium entranceway will sport a terrazzo platform complete with tables, chairs, and benches - the perfect spot for a coffee or lunch break.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
