Six weeks since our last update, and progress at The Smithe has been moving along well. The base of the 27-storey, mixed-use, residential high-rise by Boffo Developments and GBL Architects has now poked above grade, thereby giving an early indication of the project's size and scope.

The five-storey podium base will be home to a mix of uses, with the first floor to be dedicated to retail, while the three floors above will be leased out as office space. As for the top of the podium, the fifth floor will contain the tower's 4,000 square-foot amenity deck with attached outdoor terrace.

The residential portion of the tall, but relatively narrow high-rise will contain just 97 units, with space for roughly 125 inhabitants. Located at the corner of Smithe and Cambie, the aptly-named project will place residents within easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants of Yaletown and several transit options.

Once complete, The Smithe will boast an impressive canopy of trees and other vegetation, both at its base, and upon its various outdoor terrace spaces. Slated for completion by 2020, The Smithe will make for a fine addition to downtown Vancouver.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
