Several months since our last update, and progress upon the retail and landscaping elements at Kensington Gardens has now all but reached completion. The T&T Asian grocery store chain has now opened, along with a large restaurant, while finishing touches to the landscaping are now wrapping up.

Viewed above during what appears to have been an impromptu photoshoot, the spiral-clad, Seuss-esque development by Westbank and Henriquez Partners Architects, can be seen in all its glory. Entered through a maze of angular steel, Kensington Gardens makes quite a statement - no matter the vantage.

Moving around to the side, a series of outdoor chessboards and benches can be seen, along with multi-coloured paving stones, cement pathways, and potted plants. Adding to the outdoor ambiance, a semi-protected open air terrace with lounge seating and a large garden looks set to become a prime summertime hangout for residents and their guests.

Returning to the Seuss theme once more, the structure's signature spiral staircases (how's that for alliteration!) can be clearly made out, connecting the penthouse suites to their attached private rooftop terraces. Below, the warren of balconies and patios that make up the rest of the development can also be seen in abundance.

Last, but (not?) least, the somewhat underwhelming children's play area can be spotted, its green and blue base making for a small patch of whimsy amid an otherwise largely whimsical structure. With its completion now imminent, the long, at times curious saga of Kensington Gardens appears to be finally coming to a close.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
