Five months since our last update, and 601 West Hastings has reached a major mile stone as construction gets underway. The recent installation of the 25-storey tower's floor plate has - quite literally - laid the groundwork for the high-rise development ahead of its imminent rise.
More than anything, the new floor plate, though unremarkable in and of itself, serves to highlight the narrowness of the build site in a way that was not previously appreciated during the excavation phase. Viewed in the images above and below, the floor place has been sunk into place, ready to receive its cement filler as construction commences.
Taking up a tight corner lot at the apex of West Hastings and Seymour Street, the 25-storey office tower will pack a lot into a relatively small package. Elegant in its smooth glass exoskeleton, and graced at the bottom with an airy atrium and canopied entranceway, 601 Hastings by B+H Architects and PCI Developments will be a fine addition to the core.
Once complete, 601 Hastings, centrally-located and close to transit, will be a prime address for any modern office space looking for new downtown digs.
SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
