Three months since our last update, and subterranean progress at The Smithe continues to advance towards grade. With rebar now threatening to poke up above ground level, it appears that it will not be long before the 27-storey, mixed-use, residential high-rise by Boffo Development and GBL Architects begins to take shape.

The multi-use, five-storey podium base will be the first to emerge, to be capped off with a 4,000 sq. ft. amenity deck with attached outdoor terrace. Inside, the first floor of the podium will be dedicated to retail, with the three floors above it made into office space.

Despite its height, the relatively narrow tower portion of the development will hold just 97 units, making for a somewhat close-knit community of high-rise dwellers. Nonetheless, The Smithe's prime downtown location at the corner of Smithe and Cambie, will place its 125-plus residents within easy walking distance of Yaletown and multiple transit options.

The completed development will be very green friendly, with renderings including numerous trees, to be found both at the base, and upon the generously sized fifth-floor terrace. Once complete - slated for 2020 - The Smithe will more than likely be a welcome addition to the core.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
