A block-long stretch of Davie St in the West End is currently in the process of a major transformation as the two-tower 1661 Davie Street continues to rise. Located along the north side of the street between Bidwell and Cardero, 1661 Davie Street by Westbank and Crombie REIT has made major progress since our last update in October

The 21- and 23-storey rental towers will be connected at their base via a three-storey retail space to be dominated by a Safeway grocery store fronting onto Davie Street. Replacing an old Safeway location, the retail portion will be a significant upgrade, as will the addition of 319 market rate rentals.

The units will be split between 37 studio, 178 1-bedroom, 86 2-bedroom, and 18 3-bedroom suites, the development as a whole to represent an influx of up to 500 new residents into the neighbourhood. Below the retail level, three storeys of underground parking will hold 117 commercial and 177 residential parking spaces.

The completed development will be LEED Gold, and will feature a hydronic heating system augmented by solar shading and triple-glazed windows. Amenities will include several rooftop terraces, a children's play area, a fitness centre, library, and indoor amenity room with kitchenette.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
