The City of Vancouver held an open house last night for a mixed-use project at 5055 Joyce Street. Submitted by Westbank Corp and designed by Perkins + Will Architects, the development will replace a three-storey mixed-use building. Those attending the open house had an opportunity to speak to city staff and the applicant team and provide their feedback on the project. Feedback can also be provided via an online form.

The project will consist of a 4-storey podium and a tower rising to 31 storeys. The podium will contain over 11,000 sq ft of retail on the ground floor. Floors 2-31 will be market housing units and amenities. There will be a total of 298 of strata residential units, with a mix of 146 one-, 120 two-, and 32 three-bedroom units. Amenities will include a rooftop terrace, a gym, a swimming pool, and a play area. The most distinguishing feature of the proposal are the vines and ivy around the entire building, which will give the appearance of a vertical forest.

The proposal includes 197 car parking spaces in 6 underground parking levels, as well as 533 bicycle parking spaces. The building sits directly across the Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain station and is thus also connected to several bus routes. It is also within walking distance of several parks, schools, the Collingwood branch of the Vancouver Public Library, and the Collingwood Neighbourhood House.

Once complete, 5055 Joyce Street will be a welcome addition to East Side, its immediate proximity to transit and several neighbourhood amenities to ensure a quick uptake of units.
