A month since we last checked in at the site of Opal, and progress at the NORR Architects-designed residential complex by Element Lifestyle Retirement has been moving along well. The Cambie Village-area 130-room retirement home, spanning across two 4-6-storey structures, sits along King Edward Ave, the 140,000 square-foot facility to be a welcome addition to the neighbourhood.

Much of the glazing work is now complete, leaving the cladding application and finishing work for the exterior of the structure. Once finished, Opal will be faced with a mix of glass, spandrel, stone, and wood.

Opal will consist of a mix of care options for a range of needs and personal care requirements. There will be 44 seniors condos, 56 seniors rental apartments, and 30 seniors complex care units.

Residents will be kept active thanks to a rich mix of activity rooms and amenity spaces, including a rooftop terrace, library, fitness centre, games room, art studio, business centre, and theatre. Once complete, the project will deliver over a hundred new residents, along with staff, and visitors to the area, thereby adding to the urban vibrancy of Cambie Village.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
