Eight months since our last update, and progress at the future site of 400 West Georgia Street has been moving steadily along, the former parking lot now a full-blown excavation pit. The 24-storey office tower by Westbank and Merrick Architecture will feature an architecturally ambitious built form, composed of a series of stacked "cubes," arranged somewhat akin to a slightly disheveled Jenga tower.

For now, however, the site remains as a large excavation pit, the 92-metre tower to eventually rise adjacent to the Vancouver Library, near the heart of the city. Located thus within easy walking distance to Granville St (and station), as well as to many of Vancouver's most popular destination neighbourhoods, including Gastown, Yaletown, and Coal Harbour, the project will likely be popular among the specific type of young tech talent the development is hoping to target.

The tower will also sport a series of living walls and vegetation, the stacked cubes to allow for stellar views of the surrounding skyline. The ground floor will include a retail space, a water feature, and a terrazzo platform for impromptu gatherings and al fresco coffee breaks.

Once complete, 400 West Georgia Street will bring 375,000 square feet of modern office space to the core, the structure part of Vancouver's ongoing urban transformation - to say nothing of its tech city aspirations.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
