Two months since our last update, and progress at the site of the NORR Architects-designed Opal has been moving along nicely, the Cambie Village development by Element Lifestyle Retirement steadily moving towards structural completion. Made up of two four-storey residential complexes, the 140,000 square-foot, multi-funcitonal retirement home will soon welcome a total of 130 residents across a range of unit types and care options.

Located just steps from the King Edward SkyTrain station, Opal will place residents at the edge of Cambie Village, close to shops, cafes, and restaurants. Part of the ongoing intensification of the King Edward and Cambie corridors, Opal joins a slew of others to call the neighbourhood home.

Opal will be broken down by unit type with 44 seniors condos, 56 seniors rental apartments, and 30 seniors complex care units. The facility will also contain 30,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor amenity space, including a rooftop terrace, library, fitness centre, games room, art studio, business centre, and theatre.

With glazing work now moving towards completion, it will not be long before the first instances of cladding begin to appear. Once complete, Opal will be a welcome addition to the neighbourhood, the residents, staff, and visitors to bring a significant degree of pedestrian vibrancy to the area.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
