Coming soon to downtown Vancouver's West End, the aptly named English Bay Residences rental tower is on target to deliver up to 200 new residents to the neighbourhood bounded by Davie, Denman, and English Bay Beach. At 25 storeys, the DA Architects-designed apartment block represents the shifting demographics of the area, the West End one of the last bastions of single family homes remaining on the downtown peninsula.
Notable in the images above and below, a signature design feature of the tower appears to be the decision to alternate the plate size of each balcony from one floor to the next, going from small to large and back again. Other than this, the tower appears to be fairly standard, the finished product to be clad in a continuous glass curtain wall, much in the fashion of most modern residential high-rises across the city.
The podium base fronting onto Davie St will feature a row of ground floor retail, thereby marking an improvement over the London Drug Store parking lot that existed previously. Well-situated at the confluence of Denman and Davie, and only steps from English Bay Beach and Stanley Park, the rental tower will be a hot commodity amidst the city's tight vacancy rate.
Amenities will include a daytime concierge, gym, children's play room, pet wash station, and a rooftop terrace and bbq deck that will be sure to come with breathtaking views of the city, mountains, and ocean. Once complete, English Bay Residences will be a welcome addition to the area, the West End a prime location for a luxury rental apartment tower of this scale.
SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
