Three months after last checking in at the site of The Independent, and exterior cladding work has continued, thereby moving the project closer to completion. While the upper levels of the podium and tower have now been finished, work has moved along as well at street level, bringing the retail and lobby components nearer to fruition.

A multi-part development, The Independent by Rize Alliance has been designed by Acton Ostry to include several different volumes and heights, each with their own distinct aesthetic character. Viewed above, the mix of brick cladding, spandrel, glazing, and other materials, speaks to the eclectic nature of the project - which reportedly takes its cue from the shops of nearby Main Street.

By far the tallest component of the development comes in the form of the 21-storey residential tower, which will soon be home to 258 units of various layouts and sizes.

Above, as viewed from the other end of the development, the many low-rise aspects of the project will bring a mix of retail and office space to the neighbourhood. Once complete, The Independent will be a welcome addition to Mount Pleasant, with easy access to both the Kingsway and South Main corridors.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
