Currently nearing completion along the Kingsway, the distinctive spiral staircases crowning the three-tower Kensingston Gardens development have brought a whimsical, almost Dr. Seussian aesthetic to the corridor. Located just a few blocks shy of the Vancouver-Burnaby border, the Henriquez Partners Architects-designed residential tower - spirals and all - could also be said to be loosely evocative of Old Montreal or M.C. Escher, depending on one's cultural reference points.

Comprised of a trio of 14-storey towers, grounded along Kingsway with a mid-rise addition in conjunction with low-rise townhomes found within the centre of the development, Kensington Gardens will soon bring 404 units online, a marked improvement from the underutilized Canadian Tire big box store that formerly occupied the site.

Built as outdoor connections from the upper floor penthouse units to their respective rooftop terraces, the space-saving measure has produced a striking effect as viewed from nearly any angle, especially so from street level along Kingsway.

Beyond the well-appointed penthouse suites, all residents will be treated to a full range of amenities, including a swimming pool, fitness centre, movie lounge, and BBQ terrace. Shoppers will be happy to note the planned inclusion of a 33,000 square-foot retail space at ground level, along with a T&T Supermarket.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
