Ten months after the project was announced, and excavation has begun at the future site of Belford Properties' mixed-use Sun Towers development in Metrotown. Designed by IBI Group, the 41-and-26-storey residential towers will soon be home to 479 units, with 285 in the former, and 194 in the latter.

Visible in the above illustration, the addition of a 100,000 square-foot mixed-use podium, known as The Centre at Sun Towers, will serve to anchor the development within the bustling Metrotown district of central Burnaby.

Viewed above and below, excavation is now well underway, the first signs of construction clearly visible at the bottom of the pit. With cement and rebar now beginning to crop up, it will now only be a matter of months before the site begins its ascent towards grade.

While the residential towers will provide buyers with a large, 24,000 square-foot amenity space, including a rooftop terrace, pool, and lounge, the Centre will position 70,000 square feet of office space above an additional 30,000 square feet of ground-level retail. Part of Burnaby's ongoing urban redevelopment, especially intense along the SkyTrain corridor, the project will soon join the plethora of high-rise projects in and around Metrotown that have risen over the last few years.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
