Eight months ago, SkyriseVancouver broke a story announcing plans by Strand Development and Yamamoto Architecture Inc. to develop a sprawling new residential proposal at 3681 Victoria Drive and 1915 Stainsbury Avenue. Accepted by City Hall at 153 secured market rental apartments spread across two six-storey structures, construction was set to begin once the site had been cleared of all remaining properties.

Viewed above, the former light industrial site has now been cleared, demolition crews having been hard at work over the last couple of months. Below, all that remains across much of the build site are piles of rubble, the clearance of which will pave the way for the development's imminent excavation and construction.

Located in Kensington-Cedar Cottage, roughly equidistant to either Commercial-Broadway Station to the north, or Nanaimo Station to the south, 3681 Victoria Drive and 1915 Stainsbury Avenue will place residents within a relatively close proximity to transit, the shops of Commercial Drive, and John Hendry Park.

Once complete, the addition of 153 secured market rental apartments, consisting of a mix of 45 studio, 46 one-, 35 two- and 27 three-bedroom apartments, plus three-bedroom townhouses, will be of great benefit to the neighbourhood, the city as a whole currently in the midst of a dire shortage of rental housing, which now sits at a paltry 0.8% vacancy rate.

SkyriseVancouver will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
