Currently under construction, Wall Group of CompaniesStrathcona Village development has introduced a much-needed burst of colour on East Hastings Street, where industrial activity to the north and residences to the south come to a head. As the building nears completion, we look back at how the site has changed over the last five years.

A strip of industrial-commercial buildings defined the property prior to the construction of Strathcona Village. Not one of Vancouver's most attractive streetscapes, the new GBL Architects-designed development shifted the site's use to residential, with retail implanted at street-level.

The boxy 283-unit project takes cues from the nearby shipping containers at Vancouver Harbour, employing an irregular red and orange palette that easily catches the attention of passersby. Three towers of varying heights comprise the multi-faceted complex, which is scheduled to complete this year.
