Construction is well underway on a new highrise condominium development in Coquitlam, soon to add new density to a wedge-shaped site on Clarke Road, just south of Burquitlam Station on the SkyTrain's Millennium Line. Magusta Development's The Burquitlam Capital will rise 23 storeys from 509 Clarke Road, and features a design by Rositch Hemphill Architects.

Structural forming for the project has been ongoing since a tower crane was installed at the base of the excavated pit last spring. In the roughly one year since the crane's installation, the tower’s underground levels and podium have been formed, and the tower component has begun to ascend above Clarke Road.

The latest photos from the site show that four tower levels have already been formed above the one-storey base, with crews currently working on the building's sixth level. Now that a few of the residential levels have been completed, the repeating floor layouts will allow construction crews to develop a rhythm in placing forms, pouring concrete, and moving on to the level above, leading to a speedier ascent.

Upon completion, the development will introduce 189 condominiums, four townhomes, and 10,534 square-feet of commercial space to the Burquitlam neighbourhood. Residents of the development will have access to features including a second-level podium rooftop terrace, a lounge and meeting area, and a fitness centre.
