A three-storey commercial building proven obsolete in the midst of Vancouver's densifying core has been erased and is now being replaced by a 26-storey condominium by Bosa Properties. Excavation for Cardero had been progressing for over a year, and this week, the tower crane for the Henriquez Partners Architects-designed building has been erected.

The property is bounded by West Georgia, Pender, and Cardero, hence the project name. The building's 119 units come with wide-plank oak hardwood and honed limestone tile flooring, quartz countertops, and BOSAspace built-in furniture to maximize usable floor area. Amenities will include an entertainment lounge, fully equipped fitness centre, and a sixth floor rooftop deck with a barbecue area.

Architecturally, Cardero intersperses two sculpted building forms as a response to the unique shape of the site. The 26-storey tower employs privacy screens that also help reduce solar heat gain. The 21-storey volume evokes the more traditional rectilinear residential towers along Pender Street. They both rest atop a four-storey podium featuring at-grade retail and 45,000 square feet of office space.

A recent photo from the site shows the mast for the tower crane erected. When the full structure is assembled, it will service vertical construction of the development.
