The former home of Art Works Gallery at Smithe and Cambie streets has now been dismantled ahead of impending construction for a new highrise by Boffo Developments. The 24-storey tower at the edge of Yaletown, simply named The Smithe, is set to become the first downtown highrise by the local developer, which has nearly completed an even taller tower called Modello in Burnaby.

The GBL Architects-designed tower will have 94 two- and three-bedroom units starting at 1,000 square feet. Each home will be finished with nine-foot ceilings, marble stone flooring, Italian custom kitchens, and integrated appliances, all of which will be bathed in natural light via expansive windows. Trepp Design Inc. has imbued the residences with two "sophisticated and timeless" colour schemes, inspired by exotic palisander and heavily grained walnut.

The entirety of the sixth floor will be devoted to a flurry of indoor and outdoor amenity spaces for residents. Designed as an extension to residents' homes, the program sets aside areas for a fitness centre, yoga space, and a fully equipped lounge space. An outdoor terrace, framed by dramatic supporting columns, promises elevated views of the vibrant neighbourhood.

The oblique 15,000-square-foot site will contain retail space on the main floor, followed by three levels of office and commercial space, easily identified by a facade of glass and masonry. With vertical construction still a ways off, Boffo is anticipating a 2020 delivery.
