The City of Vancouver recently received an application to rezone 118-150 Robson Street to permit a 29-storey mixed use development with a six-storey podium. Currently the site is occupied by the heritage-protected Northern Electric Company Building, a three-storey brick stone structure currently occupied by Catholic Charities Men's Hostel. Developed by Amacon and designed by GBL Architects, the 88-metre project will include 131 residential units, four to six levels of hotel space, and hotel-related retail on the ground floor.

Amenities include a common outdoor space located on the fifth level, supported by over 2,000 square feet of internal amenity space. Once completed, the existing Catholic Charities Men's Hostel will be relocated to the proposed location of 1045-1055 Seymour Street.

The envelope of the Northern Electric Building will be preserved and restored while the interior of the building, said to have little heritage value, will be updated with hotel rooms, a restaurant and a coffee shop. A new six-storey hotel building is meant to reflect the form and character of the existing urban fabric along Beatty Street while making an easier transition to the taller buildings north of Robson. The massing of the tower will be broken down by shifting the balconies and varying cladding materials.

A community open house will be held from 5-8 PM on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Sandman Hotel at 180 West Georgia Street with the applicant team and City staff available to answer questions.
